I always start the day with a good cup of tea. In my office there is filtered water, electric kettle, a nice selection of loose tea and a welcome to anyone who needs a cup!
I always travel with T-Sac filters and loose tea. There is nothing worse than traveling and ending up at a location with poor or no teas available. Hotel managment always hears from me if there is ample "free coffee" and no hot water....

Wonderful comments, thanks everyone. If you can have a moment of peace in a war zone with tea, well, what more can you possibly ask for?

Hi Becky,

My understanding is that tea drinking is associated with reduced risk of osteoporosis, in spite of the caffeine content. I've seen this reported in several studies. Probably there is an upper limit of tea intake beyond which you would receive no benefit and the caffeine content might become problematic. I do not know what this upper limit is, however. I would tend to think that a "reasonable" intake of a few cups a day would be just fine.
By the way, the "home decaffeination" method that I think you alluded to has been shown to not work anyway. See my post on tea and caffeine: An Update on Tea and Caffeine.
Thanks for your question!

I, too, was a daily coffee drinker - several a day, in fact. Then health concerns forced me to cold-turkey quit - not even decaf allowed. Tea was an ocassional supplement, eventually becoming a far more enjoyable replacement. Brewing a small hot pot is such an enjoyable part of the day now. I brew a large pitcher of iced tea every few days, but hot tea, regardless of how hot the day, is so relaxing and comforting. My tea canisters, pot & strainers enjoy a prominent place on my counter. My son, a solder in Iraq, requested several teas be sent to him to have after a hard day at work. Hot or cold, he enjoys comforts of home in the middle of a war zone.

I am lot like you. I must have my tea. It goes with me to school where I teach. If I don't have it, I am crabby and my little ones ask did you have tea this morning. I keep a pot, tea, and things at school too. I love the fact it slows me down, I can take a few minutes for me and I can't miss a day without that time. It has become very important.
Thanks for your great teas. I love them.

I was a coffee drinker for years but I now find that tea is so much better. I have tried different teas and still learning. The one thing I know is that tea has changed the way I think about my life.

Hi! I have been a tea drinker most of my life! When I turned 50, I was diagnosed with osteopenia, the stage just before osteoporosis. My problem is I have a cupboard FULL of WONDERFUL teas; most of which ARE NOT decaf! I understand about decaffinating tea.... BUT, you end up with "Why bother tea!" Does the small amount of caffeine in tea really matter when it comes to osteoporosis? Help!!! I MISS MY TEA!!!!
